Common
Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."
My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.
What stuff do you think is common?

Having now read most of the answers…
I have come to the unavoidable conclusion that the most common thing in the world is…
… Um...
…me.
I do/have/wear/say so many of the things that people have listed. I guess that’s what happens when your from Basildon.
It’s a bloody good job I’m thick skinned really.

basildon bond
my family seems to have been described to a tee.
i am from Braintree, only 45 mins from your good self. And born in Colchester - so have taken a hammering there too!
In Dorset these days, but Essex loud and proud.

Hmmm...
So, we've got the Essex Boys here then?
Like I said, born in Harlow.
I'm from the farmery part though, all fields, not so many knob-ends.

i went out to Sankey Soap in Manchester
i thought the north was supposed to be avin it large.
They were no-where near what i expected. No one was so mullered they had their shirt off (well there was one....) and the really did not know how to ave it.
I managed to get a massive together to go see a good mate from Arlow play Ashton Gate fest in Bristol. He plays live techno and done some vinyl but got the 2.15pm slot. there was 600 people chilling, and about 12 of the Essex massive at the fron running round and giving it the large. They knew they had to up their game when they saw the massive.
