My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

Igot stopped in Shepherds Bush by a lonely copper one evening in December, a good many years ago. Very, very drunk and carrying a traffic cone with which I had been megaphoning Christmas carols at my fellow tube passengers. Polisman said "What are you doing with that sir?" I said "I've brought it all the way from Oxford Street for you, it's your first Xmas present" I think he might have wet himself trying not to wet himself. I left him leaning against the station wall with tears in his eyes holding a traffic cone.
One of my finer moments.
