This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Traffic cones
I wonder how many traffic cones are in britain? And what percentage of those have been used as hats or musical instruments?

Or
Funny Madonna breasts.

Well that's what we'd do...

nothing to do with being common
everything to do with being very, very drunk.

I
got stopped in Shepherds Bush by a lonely copper one evening in December, a good many years ago. Very, very drunk and carrying a traffic cone with which I had been megaphoning Christmas carols at my fellow tube passengers. Polisman said "What are you doing with that sir?" I said "I've brought it all the way from Oxford Street for you, it's your first Xmas present" I think he might have wet himself trying not to wet himself. I left him leaning against the station wall with tears in his eyes holding a traffic cone.
One of my finer moments.
