This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

like the Togaboy's but not really.
The Races, i always thought, was carte blanche to dress up as well as one possibly can, and trip around the stands with your best posh accent on, sport of kings and whatnot.
it does not entail getting so smashed you end up rolling in mud puddles and throwing up in the corner of marquees, before going home with your shoes slung over your shoulder.
and don't get me started on fascinators.

Fascinators
Only ever been to the races once and only learned about fascinators as one was being worn by someone near by. I think in her case it would be better described as a "distractor" as she'd managed to dress herself in a way that even the most style challenged (e.g. me) could see was just plain wrong (short tight skirt, book tube, bolero jacket and long white gloves).
