This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Jewelry with pentagrams/crystals/the owner's name/Celtic knots/etc etc etc

I own a simple pentagram pendant.
I wear it constantly, but not because I'm goth, or emo or trying to be cool, but because I'm Wiccan. Therefore, I wear it in much the same way that a Christian would wear a cross, or a Jew the Star of David.
Does that make me common? Or indeed, does that make anyone who wears the symbol of their religion/way of life/belief system etc. common?

No
I mean the sort who wear them because it makes them look more "mysterious" or "mystical." Though even if they really were religious, if the jewelry was huge, it would be an eyesore, no matter what religion they were.

I know my wording doesn't make any sense, but I can't be arsed to try to make any more sense.

I get what you mean :)
Its very hard to get anything related to Wicca or Paganism that doesn't feel tacky, or gimmicky because of all the idiots who buy/wear such stuff in order to be mysterious and mystical, as you said.

My wife has one...
but she's a pagan. We also have things like Athames and scrying mirrors in the house, but, again, they aren't just for show.

I don't buy religion at all - I can see the psychological need for it in some cases, but I'm a scientist by trade and I am thus unmoved by any system of belief. However, it brings my wife comfort and I view her religion as just as valid as any other. In fact, it's very interesting and I can understand a lot more of the logic behind it than I can in Judaism, Islam, etc, which have no basis on the individual or the reality of peoples' existence.

Hmmm
Also Wiccan, wearing a discreet pentagram necklace under my shiurt, along with two tiny pentacle earrings and a silver pentacle ring on my right hand. Does this make me common?

I understand what you mean about people jumping on the bandwagon, but tarring the genuinely religious with the same brush is slightly harsh in my view.

Although I do agree that my friend's mum scares me when she comes over with a 6-inch cross hanging over her chest like a nun. But I wouldn't say that's common - more ostentatious.

/2 cents
