This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

Maybe not common, maybe just sad.
But I stopped into a Tesco Express on my way home from work, only to find a gaggle of hoodrats in the queue in front of me, in their sweaty little palms clutched packets of pro-plus, the caffeine tablets with about the same strength as half an espresso.

I can only imagine they thought it to be some sort of legal substitute for speed.

Many moons ago...
I lived in Manchester and my girlfriend lived in Slough, so I would catch the midnight train to London to go and see her.
One night I thought it would be a good idea to stay awake for the journey, so took pro-plus just before the train left Manchester.
Next thing I knew I was in Euston.
I'd not even stayed awake long enough to go through Stockport at 00:10.
Lack of ringing endorsement for pro-plus then...
