This is a question Complaining

I like writing letters of complaint to companies containing the words "premier league muppetry", if only to give the poor office workers a good laugh on an otherwise dull day. Have you ever complained? Did it work?

Tenuous link here, but it's a sort of anti-complaint.
I was once told the story of a man who took his Rolls Royce on a jolly 'round Europe. He was in France heading for Italy when the front axle snapped clean in half. He phoned Rolls Royce and they sent a mechanic with a new axle; it was fitted and off he went on his merry way.

When he got home, he phoned Rolls Royce to see how much he owed them, and how they would like to receive payment. They denied all knowledge of the incident, and assured him that an axle would never snap on one of their products.

No less a person than
Rudyard Kipling, apparently.

Nice!
Thanks for that. I was told the story in the 80's at Crusaders and had always wondered if it was true.

My Dad did some consultancy for Bentley a few years back
They had a car back in because the old duffer who bought it could smell solvent and they couldn't replicate it, even my dad's kit couldn't pick anything up. They eventually had to get the old guy to show them under what conditions it happened - turned out it was aircon on full, window down, smoking his pipe, and at about 50mph the airflow for the aircon went haywire because of the fucked up flow patterns and started pulling through the door sills, where there was solvent-based anti-rust paint.

Any other car - they'd tell you not to have the aircon on full with the window open, you muppet, and the smell will go away in a few weeks/months anyway.

Bentley re-designed the whole aircon system and switched to a low odour paint at massive cost to keep one old man happy.

Genius.

I wonder how much PR like that costs? sounds like a bargain if you ask me.

I lived near the old Rolls Royce/now Bentley factory and now and then saw vehicles been lowloadered in, all tarped up.
Seems that if an ailing Roller had to be brought back, it was done as discreetly as possible. Not even a logo on the lowloader.
Can't have the hoi polloi seeing them broken down, what.

The factory is situated between two council estates and is across the road from the town tip so posh clients have plenty to gawp at!

Quite true
Re Juan Quar's

They do! I saw one being loaded on the side of the M4. All covered, no logo's, although I didn't see a spare one being delivered!

Mine's always worked fine, but then you should see the service bill.

Well ....
