Why not post a variety of different responses, covering all the options?Then delete the 'wrong' ones when the OP replies, explaining their rationale.

I think doing it this way is best.its sympathetic to the OP if they've tried to make a funny and makes them look even worse if they're a liar becuase my response implies that their story beggars beleif.
