Corporate Idiocy
Comedian Al Murray recounts a run-in with industrial-scale stupidity: "Car insurance company rang, without having sent me a renewal letter, asking for money. Made them answer security questions." In the same vein, tell us your stories about pointless paperwork and corporate quarter-wits

NHS payroll is already pretty useless,
but at least we get paid on time. Nothing that can't be fixed by selling it off to the lowest bidder, I suppose.

I worked for the NHS for six years
Sure enough, my switch from temp-to-perm
got screwed up, then my switch from assistant
to (acting) manager got screwed up. It was
18 months before I could apply for the full
manager role/benefits, by which time I'd had
enough. I've regretted leaving ever since.

Until I called up to correct them,
HMRC had been led to believe that I had acquired a 2nd job, and doubled my income. Local government are similarly incapable of supplying up to date information to HMRC (on the plus side, the process of sorting out my mother's tax codes means that I'm now very familiar with the workings of the tax system, and how they generate their codes - whoopee).
