This is a question Hotel Splendido

Enzyme writes, "what about awful hotels, B&Bs, or friends' houses where you've had no choice but to stay the night?"

What, the place in Oxford that had the mattresses encased in plastic (crinkly noises all night), the place in Blackpool where the night manager would drum to the music on his ipod on the corridor walls as he did his rounds, or the place in Lancaster where the two single beds(!) collapsed through metal fatigue?

Add your crappy hotel experiences to our list.

Should probably go under the Top Tips section but it is about hotels and so it's vaguely on topic.

Whenever I go abroad to a place where I don't speak the language I print out, on business cards, the name and address of the hotel in English and local lingo and, on the reverse, a map showing exactly where the hotel is.

If you get lost, find a cab and give him the card. Saved a lot of mates a lot of trouble this has....

Cheers

Not so much if you get lost
as if you get pissed! A handy tip that.

When our local boozer
ran a trip to Amsterdam, we had t shirts printed up. The pub's name was on the front, and the hotels was on the back, so if we were found in the gutter, maybe some kind soul would see us back safely. Or post us back to the UK.

Try that in China
They'll still drive you round and round the city for an hour and laugh at you when you try to explain to them that you know what they're doing. Try not to pay and they wail like stuck pigs and call the police.
