Stephen King's tried to have his name removed from most of the films of his books.For me, the singularly best adaptation has to be the film of The Lawnmower Man.
The original short story is "Rich bored housewife hires slightly weird young man to do the lawn mowing. One day, she comes out to find the lawnmower going around the garden on it's own, and the man following it, naked, eating the clippings."
How they managed to extrapolate that to "Science dude fucks with virtual reality on drugs" is really quite impressive.
