This is a question Driven to Madness

Captain Placid asks: What annoying things do significant others, workmates and other people in general do that drive you up the wall? Do you want to kill your other half over their obsessive fridge magnet collection? Driven to distraction over your manager's continued use of Comic Sans (The Font of Champions)? Tell us.

Libraries
Since when did they become a playground? No more the quiet, calm retreat.
Is it against the law to shush somebody in the Library when they’re talking too loudly on their mobilephone? Will I be arrested for asking some running around screaming child to shut the fuck up? Will I wither and turn to dust if I ask a mouthbreather to control their devil child spawn who is violently flicking through the dvd/cd racks creating a wall of ‘click, clack, click, click, clack, click’ sounds that make me want to dismember them slowly?

The library I work in a few days a week is an altogether different affair
I get to almost have heart attacks when I spot msc students plonk bottles of water on books from the seventeenth century. But I also have the freedom to dress them down bluntly. I also get moments when David Attenborough is having a press briefing on the table in front of me, Michael Palin visit to admire a project I spent two years working on, and have the simple joy of helping someone doing a phd or masters find information they need for their research, not least my colleagues in the field doing scientific research.

And no screaming kids, ace :)

Your library sounds nicer....
Can I come there?
I think I would faint dead away if Michael Palin came within 10 feet of me. Love that man to bits...

That sounds
a LOT more civilised than the crèche which was the library I visited in Nottingham before I left.

The fact that I left IS partially related. Partially

P.S. Come back to B3ta, Jahled! We promise not to do many more Flan pics.

I recently went back to my favourite childhood library
It used to have four shelves of books all the way round the childen's reading room. Now only one shelf is full, one has a few books standing open on it and the other two are completely bare. It's a deeply depressing sight.

Spoilt little shits.
