This is a question Driven to Madness

Captain Placid asks: What annoying things do significant others, workmates and other people in general do that drive you up the wall? Do you want to kill your other half over their obsessive fridge magnet collection? Driven to distraction over your manager's continued use of Comic Sans (The Font of Champions)? Tell us.

The adverts on DVDs
DVDs you've bought legitimately, from a shop, or on-line.
Why do they put the pirate DVD warning advert on these? surely they're preaching to the converted. They wanna put it on the dodgy ones.

Also the line "you wouldn't steal a car"well, if I could get a copy of the car and the owner of the original car could keep his, then chances are I probably would.

Also I'd really like the download speed of the girl in the adverts.

Apostrophes that appear in one line
and disappear in the next

/needless pedantry

needless linebreak and the use of an acronym.
They meant to say 'The Adverts on DICK VAN DYKE's DVDs you've bought legitimately.'

It seems a bit specific I know, but maybe the star of 'Diagnosis: Murder' has a stall at a car boot sale nearby or something. I don't know.

Also too many commas.

I can only apologise.
I'd had too much coffee. Coffee lead to the finger/keyboard hyperactivity.

i've edited it now.
sorry again.

What fucks me off
Is the DVDs (Disney are particularly guilty of this) that won't let you watch the film/TV programme on the disc until you've sat through 10-15 minutes of "upcoming features". I've bought this fucking thing, just let me watch it!

No wonder people pirate stuff when they're treated with such contempt.

Handbrake
Stick the disc in the computer, let handbrake find the longest thing on it, which will be the film, and then copy it to HD in whatever format you prefer.e

Fuck I hate it when there's a better windows prog. than linux.
dvddecrypter and then dvdshrink to fit it nicely on a 4.7gb disc.

Do you know anything on Linux that copes with CopyProtect
That's the one with a cp in a triangle on the DVD. Apparently it puts in all sorts of silly spikes to the encrypted video so nothing except a domestic player can cope with it. Which pisses me off royally, because wanting to watch a DVD on a computer is hardly unusual these days. At least they could warn you up front - I've returned several DVDs to Amazon as faulty because they wouldn't play on a computer. Worst of all, that included the Camberwick Green / trumpton / Chigley boxed set.

XBMC also has an option to try to skip straight to the menu:
System - Settings - Video - DVDs - Attempt to skip introduction before DVD menu.

Thanks, useful app
But why should I have to jump through hoops like this just to play content that I've bought? It's times like that that I have no sympathy at all for studios and their whining about piracy destroying the industry.

See also DVD region control.

Just use the 'skip chapter' button
Takes a minute or so reach the film.

What annoys me most is the 'None of the views expressed in this film....' thing. WHO GIVES A SHIT.
