This is a question Drunk Parents

Watching the old man swing home from the pub and start arguing with Newsnight can be either funny, slightly unnerving or just plain terrifying. Tell us about daft things parents have done while they've been in their cups.

my mum was so angry my dad used to spend all his evenings in the pub
that one night she drove us there and she, my brother, and myself let all his tyres down to teach him a lesson.

by the time he came out of the pub he was so pissed he drove all the way home and didn't even notice. this was of course back in the days when drinking and driving was still illegal.

mind you this was the man that got so pissed he threw a glass ashtray at the wall and forgot to let go. sliced through two tendons in his hand and had to have an operation to restore the movement in his fingers. he also threw the house keys through the window. they smashed the window on their way out and were never seen again.

So you're saying you were complicit in your mother's attempts to kill your father?
I don't know which is worse, letting the air out of his tires, or her feeling the need to export her brand of anger from the house to his sole happy place.

Glad he survived.

ahhhh, say no more.
Isn't it amazing how time and other things can change a relationship? My dad was none too cool, then got cancer and became not too bad. Well, then he died, but for a while it was alright.

I beg to differ
Cancer turned my mum into a right cnut a lot of the time (I'm guessing that feeling sick from all radio/chemo therapy, waiting for hours on end to see expensive specialists whilst feeling said sickness & knowing that she was ultimately dying a horrible death anyway made her slightly crabby. Occasionally.)
But then she too died which seemed to improve our relationship inordinately!

You should have polished the wall with his face when you were big enough.

These things go generation to generation.
I learned that off daytime soap operas. It's the only way to learn psychology.

Isn't 'throwing an object but forgetting to let go' just waving it around in the air?

"this was of course back in the days when drinking and driving was still illegal."
Wait, are you saying that it's legal now? That's the last time I go on the roads after closing time.

Well, when was the last time you were driving late at night and saw a police car?
I finish work in a warehouse at 2am on a Friday night and then drive 15 miles home.

If I went on the piss until 2am instead then drove home, I guarantee you I would not get pulled over. The police are all too busy sorting out fights in town centres.

"threw a glass ashtray at the wall and forgot to let go. sliced through two tendons in his hand"
Please explain - I can't figure out how this would work.
