This is a question Eccentrics

We all know someone who's a little bit strange - Mum's UFO abduction secret, or the mad Uncle who isn't allowed within 400 yards of Noel Edmonds.

Tell us about your family eccentrics, or just those you've met but don't think you're related to.

Reading Elvis
The man is a local legend (possibly a national one, he's been put on Facebook). He is totally obsessed with Elvis, is only ever seen wearing Elvis t-shirts and dirty jeans with his greying hair in a quiff, usually carrying an Elvis vinyl or two in an old carrier bag. I'm told he often stands in the station during rush hour waving the vinyl as though it was a Bible and preaching about Elvis.

5 years I lived in Reading, and didn't see him until the week before I moved out. My life is complete.

oh yes, He's real enough
last time i heard there was a whipround to buy him a plane ticket to memphis... not sure if it came to aught.
He's a harmless soul though, and will sing you an elvis song at the drop of a hat if you only ask.

I've spent about 5 years in Reading
and I'm currently at uni here and have never ever seen the Reading Elvis, I have countless invites to join the Reading Elvis appreciation society on Facebook, but I can't because I've never seen him :( Maybe I should try moving somewhere else too!

Elvisly yours
I used to sign him on when I worked at Reading Dole Office in 1985. He's still there - a lovely, harmless bloke who'll do Blue Suede Shoes in the middle of WH Smiths if you ask him nicely.

Yeah, used to see him a lot
I used to live down the Oxford Road and used to seem him virtually every week on the way into town on a Saturday.

This was several years ago, so he had dark hair at that point, but the Elvis T-shirt, red jeans, and slightly odd manner about him is unmistakable.

I wonder what he does for a living?

huh?
That videoclip made me feel happy and sad at the same time - I really hope this guy is happy with his life and has people who love and would take care of him. He has the friendliest pair of eyes I've ever seen :)

he's a very nice chap
and he seems happy enough! iirc, the guy has some kind of autistic spectrum disorder and spent his childhood being passed form one 'care' home to another.. he's had a shit lot in life but he keeps on truckin. this should provide inspiration for all the little self indulgent whiny middle class emo kids sitting in their big bedroom listening to hawthorne heights on their nice big stereo, slef harming and burning htemselves with their £100 GHD's while they write poetry on myspace about how dreadful their life is, only pausing to scream 'YOU DON@T UNDERSTAND ME!' when their mum asks if they want dinner at the table or in their room.

I remember him!!!
I used to live in Southcote Road, furthest from reading west station so you'll have an inkling of my background, and i can remember him!!

My life is now complete, i can now rejoin the darkside and die with a smile on my face and a light saber in my french letter mold now.
Thank you
