Pointless Experiments
Pavlov's Frog writes: I once spent 20 minutes with my eyes closed to see what it was like being blind. I smashed my knee on the kitchen cupboard, and decided I'd be better off deaf as you can still watch television.

I have a couple,
One that springs to mind was when I was about nine, I was playing with a snappy camera that was hanging around the house. I hit upon the idea of holding the flash right against my right eye and setting it off. the result was an unimaginable pain and not being able to see anything but green in one eye for about half an hour. Not to be repeated. I really thought I'd fucked my eye for good!

Snap!
I did this too, as a curious child. I held the flash against my eye, and pushed the button. Pow! Blind! I don't remember it hurting but I was rather surprised, and it took about half an hour before I could see shades of dark and light.
I was on a school camp at the time and decided against telling the teachers as I thought they would a) panic and b) take me to hospital.
I wonder if it did any permanent damage. I wonder if I should do it again. Hmm.

wow
That's exactly what I was going to post.
Except my eye could only see purple. I was terrified that my poor eye would never recover.
Parents were not impressed. I think "serves you right" was as much sympathy as I got. Which was true, but not what I wanted to hear. I'd have been about 7.
Kids, camera flashes are not to be fired directly into the eyeball.
