Pointless Experiments
Pavlov's Frog writes: I once spent 20 minutes with my eyes closed to see what it was like being blind. I smashed my knee on the kitchen cupboard, and decided I'd be better off deaf as you can still watch television.

Ghost Car
Not quite a pointless experiment, but I've been reminded of the game we 'invented' from a previous posters comments about driving round with your car lights off.
We do this down the country lanes near where I live, and its called Ghost car!
What you do is drive round at night and if you hear another car coming turn off your lights, and then as they come towards you put the lights on, wave and then turn your lights off after you've passed them.
Or even better if you're coming up behind someone turn the lights off then, as you appear from round a bend put all the lights on!
Ghost car rules lol!

i once did this
Driving through sheffield at night, I hadn't turned my lights on as thanks to the street lighting I could see perfectly well, I was approaching another car from behind quite quickly on an otherwise empty road when I realised and flicked the lights on.
I'm pretty sure I gave the driver a good scare as s/he suddenly accelerated violently.

Hm
I am reminded of that scene from The World According to Garp.
I hope that you don't bump into any pedestrians. Just saying.

I think it's a sign
that I've been filling in too many health and safety forms recently (our lab got inspected and H&S found out we have no risk assessments) that all I can think is "Oh no, how potentially hazardous".

NOT A GOOD IDEA
Several years ago I was driving late on a summers night. Up ahead I saw flashing hazard lights and people milling about...obviously an accident.
I stopped to find a damaged car and mangled wreckae that I eventually managed to identify as a motorbike, 4 lads from the car flapping about in an agitated state with minor-ish injuries and one very dead biker spread across the road. They had been playing this game, switching their lights off as they drove, only to encounter a biker coming the other way. He had been going a bit quick, it was 3am on empty roads, only the road wasnt so empty, it was occupied by 4 twats in a car with no lights on. Insta-death ensued.
