I've got over it now, butI used to have a fear of losing car keys, to the extent that I would check I had them while driving the car. I would turn the key in the ignition while driving down the road, which is not a very good idea. I don't do this any more, but I still tap my pockets excessively whenever I'm out. My darling wife is the opposite - she appears completely uncaring about where the car keys are. This means that if we're going out and she was the last one with the keys then we'll most likely be late leaving as the car keys will be in a coat pocket, placed randomly on any available flat surface in the house, pr even once, memorably, in the washing machine on a 40 degree wash.

Get another key made.I know they're not cheap but if it's causing you anxiety, it seems like a no-brainer.

Glad it's not just me. The amount of times I'd panic that I'd left them somewhere because I couldn't find them in my pocket only to remember that they were actually in the ignition nd I was doing 70 down the M6 was unbelievable.
