I watch far too many films.
And I tend to like them wierd. Asian (Korean and japanese) horror, and Chinese Triad movies tend to make up the rest of my cinematic diet through. Listed below is random selection of films i love.

Amores Perros - Very well shot twisting collection of stories that i'm sure Tarrotino is planning to rip off any day soon.

Y tu mamá también - A troubled woman takes two boys on the road trip of thier lives. Uplifting and moving in equal parts.

Dead or Alive: Hanzaisha - In fact the whole Miike Takeshi Yakuza trilogy.

Blade Runner - Simply a classic. I acturly have a Korean remake called "Natural City" sat waiting to be watched.

Pi - From the same director as Requiem for a dream. Twisted tense thriller.

Ichi the Killer - Miike Takeshi's dark comic masterpiece of a brainwashed contract killer trying to deal with life. Some classic gore hound moments in it too.

Battle Royal - First one is a classic. Ignore the sequel.

The Eye - The pang brothers original made me jump out of my skin in the cinema. Avoiding the American remake like the plague.

Videodrome - David Cronenberg's early 80's classic about brainwashing via the media. James woods in the man.

Cube - All of them work but the original shows just what can be done on a budget of nothing. Amazing paceing and script.

Requiem for a Dream - Dark and has a very real impact on you. Should be seen at least once.

Audition - Another Miike film. a 80 min love story followed by a 15 min twist. You'll see in coming, but the impact is still hard hitting.

True Romance - Tarrotinos finest script writting. The Walken and Hopper exchange is a fine cinema moment.

The Warriors - Style over substance in this new york gangser flick. Good fun through.

Dark City - Interesting cast, and strange "Humans as aliens playthings" story line. Atmospheric in a way that "The Matix" could have been.

The Happiness of the Katakuris - The sound of Music meets errr. Somthing with a lot of blood. random family keeps having it's hotel guest die on them. Oh and they sing alot.

Reservoir Dogs - Enough said.

Bangkok Dangerous - Pang brothers deaf mute hitman trys to discover love. Getting remaid now. Go watch the orignal through.

Event Horizon - Horror sci-fi classic that surpasses aliens for me.

Wild Zero - A music video director who hates making movies, creates a horror/zombie/alien/romcom flick with a 50's throw back and a lady boy featuring J-rock legends "Guitar Wolf". Errr Bonkers.

Oldboy - Well any of the vengence trilogy, but this one's proberly the finest. The fight scene in the corridor is quality too. Surposed to be getting a remake i belive. Shoot me now.

Hmmm. What was the question again. Recomend one film? Damn. I may have over shot. How about I recomend one director "Miike Takeshi"?

The Happiness of the Katakuris
You mean someone besides me saw this? I thought it was hilarious. I think the post-suicide song was the best.

"The Happiness of the Katakuris"
Oh yes, I've been trying to remember the name of that film for about six months. Lovely hilarious unpredictable mental Japanese joy!

But mate, Event Horizon over Aliens? Oh, nooooo

two of my friends independently bought me copies of
"the happiness of the katakuris" for one of my birthdays.

Neither had heard of it, they just read the back and thought I'd like to own it :D

Event Horizon?
Isn't that the one where there was a hole in the space station, and the computer kept saying "40% atmosphere...30% atmosphere...20% atmosphere..." and the computer's voice got slower and slower by the second?
that just ruined the entire movie for me. I'm pretty sure computers don't need atmosphere, and if they did, surely their speech wouldn't slow down, would it?
I know there are lots of other movies that make mistakes, but this one just completely shattered the illusion of reality for me.

We have very similar taste in films...
I love Ichi the Killer. Tadanobu Asano is such an amazing actor. Have you seen Survive Style 5+?
