This is a question How clean is your house?

"Part of my kitchen floor are thick with dust, grease, part of a broken mug, a few mummified oven-chips, a desiccated used teabag and a couple of pieces of cutlery", says Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic. To most people, that's filth. To some of us, that's dinner. Tell us about squalid homes or obsessive cleaners.

Am I allowed to post something reasonably serious?
As someone who is actually allergic to washing up liquid in all its many forms AND latex gloves, I tend to wash up once a week and be as economical as possible with cups etc because I fear food poisoning and bees/ants/Mickey Mouse.

My brother (as an example) has to be nagged to wash up anything, will use five mugs in one day, and does not have to look like a melting candle every time he actually does it.

For the record: Complain all you like about the washing up, but it's probably not as bad as you think.

I'm aware that my past few QOTW answers have been whining crap, so sorry.

so get a dishwasher....
seriously, advertise on Freecycle. There might well be some twunt getting a new one and wanting rid of the old one. I got a Miele one off Ebay for £50 good as new.
Then instead of using dishwasher tablets, use a mixture of borax and washing soda in the drawer.
Simples.

That's the plan as soon as I get out of student halls :-)

Out of vaguely professional curiosity, are you allergic to toothpaste as well?
The foaming agent in that is very similar to the one in washing-up liquid; it's a known irritant.

Some of them
I'm allergic to the various Parabens (a preservative used in a lot of stuff), the stuff that dyes anything blue (I think it's something -oxide, it's also in cement), Parfum/Perfume, Detergent, Latex.

So, pretty much any household or personal care product.
Have you tried using nitrile gloves instead of latex or vinyl ones?

I'm just venturing into the whole alternative rubber territory
the winners so far are something ridiculous like £5/pair so I'm looking for something better.

Cotton lined gloves and Dr. Bronner's soap
As someone with ridiculously sensitive skin AND a latex allergy...you can get nitrile gloves or vinyl gloves lined with cotton. They're actually quite nice. And for washing liquid, most are full of detergents. Not good. But if Dr. Bronner's soap is available, it's great stuff, and should work fairly well. Or if that's unavailable just go to some hippie shop or health food shop and ask for liquid castile soap. It's not as good at removing grease, but it works fairly well.

I have the same allergy...
...the worst thing about it is no fucker believes you! I'm not making it up just to get out of doing the dishes, thanks.
