Stuff I've found
Freddy Woo writes, "My non-prostitute-killing, lorry driving uncle once came home with a wedding cake. Found it in a layby, scoffed the lot over several weeks."
What's the best thing you've found?

Guns!!!
Not out on the streets, but in 'Tin City (http://baor-locations.com/Sennelagerranges.aspx (bottom of the page))' in Sennelager, Germany whilst carrying out training for a deployment to Northern Ireland.
The people who play 'civilians' in Tin City are issued a number of weapons that they use for 'attacking' the unit being trained. These are all hidden in various locations as the now disbanded (yeah RIGHT!!) IRA would do. This provides a realistic training experience and you are taught on how to spot markers and possible hide locations from the guys that have been teaching this stuff for years.
I was sat in a muddy ditch providing cover for another team and spied a big rock, in fact the only rock anywhere around.....or possibly a marker for a hide!
After moving the rock I found a sealed pipe underneath and in it were an FN2000 and an AK47. I was only a young soldier at the time and prone to flak from the older lads, but the find of the rifles got me a little bit of respect after that :)

My Dad Trained there in the 80's
and I grew up in Paderborn, attending the army school there for ages.
Came back in 86 so Dad could come out of the Army in time for me to leave school. I know that to this day he regrets leaving the Army, a job where he was paid to drink tea, drive big lorries and go camping once a year to play with guns.
I also seem to recall him guarding a local Cruise missile base near by.
Clicked for my Dad (who is probably too nice to read filth on B3ta).

Thanks for the click
I bet your dad had watery eyes watching the Remembrance Parade yesterday too :)
I helped three lovely old dears, the youngest 70, the oldest 90 to hang the wreath after the church service where I live.
I don't have many regrets about leaving, it's a hell of a change when you come out to civvy street but I manage to get by....just!
As a Sergeant I was making about 30,000 a year. My first year out I made 17,500 and struggled. I'm up to 22,000 after 3 years hard graft but I think having to look after myself al those years has helped me to adapt to the changes.
Thanks for the click :) I wish I had more time to spend reading the stories on Beta, some of them are outstanding :)
