Back when young ScaryDuck worked in the Dole office rather than simply queuing in it, he had to deal with a claimant brought in by his mum. She did all the talking. He was 40 years old.

My mum also did the "Never talk to strangers." thing.
Yet, when standing in the queue at the supermarket, the first thing she does - turn around to the stranger behind her and chat away...

My dear old mum asked me, in her best concerned/condescending voice, "Are you sure you'll be ok driving on that motorway?" which would have been a valid question had I not already been a lorry driver for several years at that point.
