This is a question IT Support

Our IT support guy has been in the job since 1979, and never misses an opportunity to pick up a mouse and say "Hello computer" into it, Star Trek-style. Tell us your tales from the IT support cupboard, either from within or without.

This just in...
I've just had a look at our helpdesk program to see what calls the nohelpdesk have put through to the training department today...

Latest is "Please could you convert these documents to Word format so that we can read them?"

And attached to the job? Two Word documents! :)

Could be word 2003
and they're trying to open with an earlier version. Or something

that was my thought
or maybe open office word or something

Along those lines, yeah...
The most common issue these days is companies still using Office 2003 (ribbon hatred, costs) and receiving 2007's .docx attachments.

This is exactly the request I've had myself. "Actually it's already a Word document, but I'll come and install the Office 2007 compatibility pack for you..."

There's a compatibility pack?!
I've been converting docx's for people in the office for about 6 months now!

Yup. You can read about it here.

That was my first thought too...
But nope. We've only got Office 2003 at work, and these were indeed bog standard Word 2003 .doc files, which opened perfectly on my old-as-the-hills PC
