Light bulbs
I always make sure that all the low-energy lightbulbs are turned off in the house if no one's using them, and have a big moan at my housemates if they're left on, but leave my laptop on while I go and watch tv for an hour or so.

who cares..
..none of that makes a blind bit of difference whether you leave shit on or not. go and live in a hut in the woods and keep yourself warm by covering yourself in fungus if you want to make a difference.

There are many square miles of oil-fields burning in Kazakstan and try telling almost any other country they need your fucking energy saving bulbs. even if they do adopt them one summer barbeque by you and your mates will offset whatever benefit.

human-kind will burn wood and wood-product. consequences will happen. or not.

Low energy bulbs...
... are better left on all the time. They take a long time to start up, and die very quickly if you keep turning them on and off.

They also don't really save any energy, but that's a whole 'nother story.

Urban legend, that one.
Mythbusters proved it. There is a brief spike when you turn CFL bulbs on, but turning them off for even just a few minutes more than offsets this. Turning them off when you're not using them saves energy.
