Monty Boyce asks: Have you ever had a real-life meet with somebody you first knew from the internet? How did it go? How long until the Asbo expires?

An American millionnairre who hosts parties for the messageboard on a regular basis.
I turned up to a couple in London - lovely - a free bar and food.

Then he told me he was having one in Las Vegas - would Mrs V and I like to attend?

I told him that was kind of him, but was a little out of our range.

He asked for my address, and a couple of aeroplane tickets turned up.

We were taken from Vegas airport to the hotel by limo, where we were instructed to go in through the VIP entrance.

Mrs V and I had our own full suite, featuring two bedrooms, three jacuzzis, two showers, five sinks and a bar.

We were instructed not to pay for anything at all, and to put it all on his bill.

There were 14 of us in total, and we stayed there for a week.

Which was nice.

You couldn't possibly begin to comprehend the size of my croissant.

It's quite odd the reactions - they're invariably along these lines.
Mrs V's and my parents shat themselves when they heard.

It's genuinely quite sad that significant acts of altruism are met with such cynicism, but hey ho. I got to experience a holiday that any competition show would be proud to offer as a prize.

But it is creepy.
I use to lurk on another board, a bit of a zoo, actually.

Amongst other bizarre posters, was one who used to send people money. Sometimes, quite a lot of it - I remember at least 2 occasions when he paypalled $1,000 to someone.

He'd do stuff like pay the first poster on every page $50.

I never really worked out his motivation, I think he just wanted attention. His real identity came out fairly early on, he was an Internet whizzkid.

I found it all very tacky. Quite a few of us used to try and win the money, just so we could tell him to shove it up his arse.

You haven't met him, and know nothing about him.
It's as creepy as me offering to buy you a pint should we ever meet.

Sorry - less creepy.
