A lot of Hindus believe that eating any meat is wrong (40% of India, for example).

Actually no.
But then, I don't actually make demands of my hosts when I'm invited somewhere, as I consider doing so to be incredibly rude.

This is why I find vegetarians to be so bloody rude. You invite them 'round to your house and they say "Hmmm. Yes I shall come, but you must make sure you do this, that and the other for me. Otherwise, I shall not eat."

It's a two-way street. I cater for your vegetarian-ness, you should cater for my taste.

Because that's all it is - a matter of taste (well - in a vegetarian's case, pretentiousness, but I suppose that's a type of taste).
