I forgot how to close my mouth once as a child. Just couldn't get my teeth to line up the way they normally did, no matter how much I tried.

After a while I stopped thinking about it and it closed naturally by itself.

I've had that problem too.
I remembered recently because I managed to slightly dislocate my jaw while sleeping.

Silly doctor
This happened to my sister when she was young and the family were holidaying in Pakistan. She got ill (as you do) and the doctor prescribed her some meds. He wrote down that you should take 2 tablets 4 times a day in English but wrote it on the page the Pakistani way (right to left). So my sister was given 4 tablets twice a day. This resulted in her tongue swelling up so that it fell out of her mouth and was half way down her chest. She thought it was normal and had just forgotten how to roll it up. She asked my mother who spent the next 20 minutes trying to show her how to roll it up. Then it clicked. Something was wrong.
