If you did have insurance, they hospital woudl likely accept about half the total from the insurance company.
I had a pretty bad bicyle accident a few years ago and the bills from the hospital were over 20K. The insurance company paid a little less than 10K. Same thing the next year when I had my gallbladder out.
What a fucking racket.

I refused to pay, and also have the knowledge that
medical bills do not affect your credit report. The only bill I paid was the one I put myself in for.
As far as the medical bills go, it shows up on your credit report as unpaid, but as long as your regular credit is fine, it's not going to affect it..I'm paying $25 a month to the hospital (I'm unemployed with no insurance, they have to accept what I can give).
