Incompetency of the highest order
At 3 years old, my girlfriend's cousin was diagnosed with retinal cancer. No other option than to remove the guilty eye. It was a simple choice for her parents. Her eye or her life.

What they didn't account for was for the incompetency of the surgeon performing the operation who removed the completely healthy eye.

Once they realised, they obviously still had to remove the cancerous eye and now she lives with 2 glass ones.

They were rewarded with a lumpy pay off from the NHS but does any amount of money make up for a complete loss of sight?

Wrong Kidney
You remember a couple of years back the same thing happened in Llanelli, except this time it was kidneys, and the guy died? Both surgeons in prison, and the bastards deserved it as they were repeatedly warned by the scrub nurse and a house doctor they were taking the wrong kidney out. Point being, dont treat Doctors like Gods, cos they will get so arrogant that they believe that they can't be corrected.

As for the poor little girl, that tool should be blinded for his incompetence.

Worryingly, things like this don't seem to be very uncommon
At least once a year there'll be a story in the paper about someone having the wrong arm/leg/eye removed in surgery.

That really is the most terrible example of incompetence.
My fiance lost the sight in his remaining eye at sixteen or so (lost the other eye as a kid in an accident) through an op that tried to save his sight in that eye. There was an 80 / 20 chance it would work - he turned out to be in the 20 percent that it didn't work for. He is still angry.
But your lass - fucking hell, I would have wanted hanging, drawing and quartering for that surgical team. I believe people with that level of responsibility who fuck it up in such a plainly mind bendingly inept way should go to prison for it. No exceptions.
