As someone who disaproves of sendnig texts to mates phonebooks...... I still find this funny -- it should be safe to send to anyone and has some thought to it rather than "I'd like to fuck you again" or other relationship-ruining crap. It's a shame that everyone knows it's a Jimmy Carr joke though.

Wasn't it Mark Twain originally?Not the phone part, obviously, but didn't he once send a telegram to each of his friends saying something like 'we are found out, leave town' and one of them did?
I'm sure I remember reading that somewhere...
