Back in primary school I read some ghost story picture book.
One of the stories that stood out was that whenever you hear an owl hoot at night it means that someone is about to die.

Still freaks me out sometimes when I hear owls hoot.

I'm quite happy that we have a pair of owls twit twooing at night every night now in the nearby fields. It's significantly better to hear that at 11pm than the local new chav family swearing at the toddler.

Owls are twats!
Thet say "Twit, woo her!" when the lady in question is a one-legged attention-whore out to take your money.

You should go camping
They're at it all night. Tawny owls, generally; they're the hooty ones and also the only really nocturnal owls. They seem more annoying than spooky, when one has been in the tree above your tent hooting for half an hour and keeping you awake. And probably shitting bits of mouse on the tent.
