This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

More of a question
Lots of posts about Fighting Fantasy, so a quick question: what do people think was the best one? Not counting Sorcery!, of course. For my money, it has to be Creature of Havoc (not sure about the spelling), which took the whole 'if you come to an entry ending in 7 then subtract 56 from it and continue' thing to a new level. And had a fucking secret code.

(I feel that posing the question also serves as a clear answer to the QOTW itself...)

forest of doom
Im an old school guy, got the original books from the 80s? i think.

hahaha for extra geekness i used to go through all of the books and do the skill / stamina of all the creatures on little squares of paper and do wargames of ff creatures with lizardmen versus undead, orcs versus dwarves etc.

The ultimate in geekiness
Would be to lose a battle in FF, and actually to stop and go back to the beginning of the book. Myself, I was always a 'keep your fingers in certain key pages' kind of person.

Deathtrap Dungeon
Trial of Champions was gay in comparison.

Starship traveller
I heard a rumour that it had a typo in which meant that it could never be completed. I never completed, and found it pretty freaky as an 11 year old. Didn't put me off FF or RPGs ... although never got into computer role play games.

Snow witch, probably
ooh. Tricky. Caverns of the Snow Witch maybe, or perhaps Deathtrap Dungeon.

I didn't get further than about book 15

How can you all call yourselves nerds...
...when using the book *titles* to refer to them? FFS!

My favourite was number 5. I hated number 23, it was practically impossible to lose.

Citadel of Chaos I think...
... first one that sprang to mind... but i liked most of them, even the Mad Max and Star Trek ripoff ones... :-)

Island of the Lizard King was good too - Nice potential twist at the end with the spider crown..
