This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.
So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?
As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.
Revel in your own nerdiness.

Seriously. English major in University and everything.
How nerdy, you ask?
I got excited when we read "A Modest Proposal" in Lit class. In fact, I get giddy for most classical works.
I read Animal Farm. For fun.
I boycotted the film Beowulf because it bastardized the poem, which I didn't even like.
I find Shakespeare crude.
I will create crazy-complex sentences in an effort to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition.

There's nothing wrong with using a preposition to end a sentence with. In fact, it's sometimes very difficult to get out of. It's a rule that grammarians dreamed up to make English look more like Latin, but no one seriously follows it today. Ask David Crystal.

and that's how i justify eschewing the use of capitals when using my name or addressing myself as 'i'.
And the award for most obscure homage-to-a-poet goes to...

as well as a few others
And I have a theory about Beowulf. I think Grendel is actually a person with Marfan syndrome.

What's wrong with reading Animal Farm for pleasure? George Orwell is the greatest English writer eva in my opinion. Technically, Aesthetically, pretty much perfect.

You'll go to extreme lengths to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition - but to no lengths whatsoever to avoid the use of cringe-inducing gibberish like 'crazy-complex'?
You have priority issues, I fear.

My word!
I once read John Osborne's play Luther for fun - it's actually very dull, all about the Diet of Worms.
In my opinion *all* reading is for fun..yes, even the J-PS!
