This sort of argument happened in "Star Trek: Deep Space 9" quite a bit.
The doctor in that show was artifically made more clever, and I think he was made more agale/strong. In competitions such as quizes and their version of darts, he and the scottish guy always argued that it was unfair. In the Star Trek world, this practice of genetic engenering was outlawed and at sevrel points he himself would be victimised even though he didn't choose to be made that way.

I know it's all fiction and all that, but it was very good in bringing these issues to light.

Personally, I can see both sides. If your child is cognativly inapt, would it be 'wrong' to make them average using drugs? What if they keep on going beyond that to make them cognativly superior, where does the line cross?

There was a kid at school who was Autistic. He had problems socialising, didn't quite get jokes and thought of any negative comment such as "Ewww, you smell like poo" as a personal slight against him, and went balistic. Somehow he could tell every single person in our year's timetable, in seconds, he just knew exactly everything... I believe the school gave the timetables to him for a day as a test or something, but that could be bullshit... but he deffo knew everyone's timetable somehow. My ma' meet up with his ma' a month ago and he got top marks to be a laywer, full qualifide a year early (or something like that). He hated the job though because of the social interaction and decided to do The Knowledge (a qualification all black-cab drivers have to do, they need to know how to get to a rediculous number of places in london, I think it's like 2k of them... needs to know them all by heart, how to get there from any other point in london).... and he loves it.

He's in Primeval at the minute.
The doctor that is, not the Autistic kid. (I assume)
