There are things worth dying for
if your death results in things being better for those you care about or believe in. Example, some terrible thing was going to happen to the mrs but me standing up for it and suffering and/or dying made it alright for her. I'd do that.

that's self-sacrifice
it's not dying in battle or blowing up 57 people on a tube train because you think you are in a battle for something that might well never come to pass - but could come to pass if people stopped blowing each other up and actually talked to each other.
