Oooohh, I know there very well =) It's quite cool, quite a few nice resturants, are you going to hire a car/go with someone who drives? I'll be honest about the half board thing, that's what I would do, the hotel food at that price won't be great but there are so many nice places around there to eat.
Don't rely on public transport, there are loads of cabs around there, but it's best to hire a car if you've got a lisance, it'll let you drive up to the mountains and visit the other areas (I can point you out to quite a few nice places to visit).
