A couple of recent camping holidays with daughter stand out as being particularly awesome.
We didn't holiday much as a kid, mostly caravans and camping. No, I'm not secretly a carny. I'd love to holiday more but I can never afford the time off work.

I'm looking forward to this
although I suspect daughter will be like mother and not like being in a tent.

Nah, it's what you make it innit.
Get glowsticks and set bug traps and give her her own torch and make sure you can barbecue on site and she'll love it.

We may practice in the back garden first
I used to love doing that!

Likewise, my mate's two-year old is too young but when he's a bit older we'll do bug traps, great fun.

Liam, my son
will love all that shit when he is older. I am expecting him to eat most of the bugs he catches though

Woodlice taste good gently toasted on a fire if you can get enough of them.

I will bear that in mind

I'd love to go caravaning
But Mark thinks it's silly if we can get to hotels for cheaper than renting the van, and we can stay in the cities, rather than in a camping. And he's right.

Depends if you want busy city or quiet countryside though eh?

(, Mon 4 Apr 2011, 13:20, Reply)
I usually prefer
the busy city, or the quiet city, but city. Rarely I'd choose countryside, but I think I should try at least once.

I fucking love camping
and it amuses me the reasons people give for not wanting to do it.

The place I typically go has better showers than most people have in their house (not stylish, but clean and very effective); we've got a big tent, which with the inflatable bed we've got and a couple of duvets is as comfortable as a proper bed; we can have fires; there is a tidal lagoon a short walk away; it's fucking heavenly, and I recommend you go there.

That sounds great
I do want to go caravaning around Europe, but Mark thinks it's not a good idea, as I'll want to see the cities at night too, so we'll end up paying for hotel anyway.
(, Mon 4 Apr 2011, 13:35, Reply)
that's the difficulty
caravans aren't cheap, to buy or hire, and they aren't particularly cheap to get a proper pitch with electricity, and if you want to go into a city then you really don't want to have a caravan.

This is why I am getting an ordinary van and putting a bed in it.

That's not a bad idea
I just want to be able to tour around Europe but having a kitchen if I want to cook and a bed when I want to sleep.
(, Mon 4 Apr 2011, 13:40, Reply)
I'm not bothering with a kitchen
I've got a portable barbecue and gas stove, which are fine.
