and decided a good way to spend a night off was to drink wine and take my nail varnish off and re-paint.

I painted em glittery green in the back of my folks' car on the day I went to university. You can always lick them smooth if you make a small mistake.

and only brush your nails once, it goes on more evenly than if you try and fill in all the gaps whilst the varnish is still wet. Erm. If that makes sense. You can stick another coat over the top to fill in the gaps once the first one is dry.

Always two thin smooth coats rather than one hazardous one.
Leave good time between coats.
