I've not read thoseI thought they were just kids books that were a bit better than average. Have I missed something important?

I wouldn't say it they are important by any means.being a kids book doesn't necessarily mean it isn't worth reading.

i didn't mean kids books aren't worth readingbut there is a habit of kids fantasy books to look OK, but be a bit meh...I need convincing before I'll read them

fair enoughthey are certainly better than most kids fantasy I'd say. Not as good as say The Hobbit though.
