I think there's just something about modern American rock music
The Foo Fighters have the same problem - there's nothing particularly wrong with the music, it's not overtly shit, I just can't be bothered to listen to it.

I just look at stuff like Everlong and Hey Johnny Park from FF's second album
and think they were doing things right, and then they released several albums of the same boring song, more or less. and people lap it up.

Maybe it's something about American audiences as well - are they just happy to buy the same album over and over again
Hell, it's been working for Green Day since about '89. Look what happened when they tried to do something "different" - Warning was, I thought, a brave effort, but it absolutely bombed. Then they went back to the same old formula and - whaddya know? - success again...
