Not connected to the thread
but reading the thread about the slut-walk has made me depressed for humanity

Humanity
or just that portion which posts here?
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:05, Reply)
The number of people
who actually thought that depressing provocatively was 'asking for it' somehow was bleak.
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:06, Reply)
Personally I found it depressing that people keep arguing
that dressing that way is a contributory factor, but then said "but it doesn't mean they deserve to be raped".
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:12, Reply)
That was what got me
women are raped regardless of what they are wearing. A man who takes rohypnol with him to a club or a pub has rape on his mind, it isn't put there by seeing someone with a low cut top.
We don't tell people it's their fault that they're burgled because their house has too many nice things, or they deserved to be mugged because they were asking for it by owning phone.

We're not going to make it, are we

(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:05, Reply)
The more I think about it
no, we're probably not.

It's in your nature to destroy yourselves

I didn't read the whole thread, but I think dressing like a skank and walking around doesn't prove anything or empower anyone.
The guy was a dick, use your words, make signs, petitions, banners.

I don't think the slut-walk was an especially good idea
but it's being done to prove a very valid point. No means no, whether you're wearing a skirt that shows off your arse, or a bra instead of a top. It's derogatory to men as well as women
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:10, Reply)
Actually I think it's a very good idea
as it's actually prompted the debate, if they had just had a march then it wouldn't have got that much attention.
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:13, Reply)
I didn't think it was a good idea
not because I disagreed with the concept, but because seeing me wobbling along would've invalidated the point
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:14, Reply)
Most of the women on the march
weren't actually dressed "sluttily" though.
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:17, Reply)
A couple of friends went on it
but that's all I know. Haven't been reading the papers recently
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:19, Reply)
You know. They have a point.
Plenty of men walk around topless but you don't see them getting raped, do you?
(, Thu 9 Jun 2011, 15:20, Reply)
I see your point.

Sorry
