about it being too hot/not hot enough/too wet/too dry/too windy/too humid etc etc ad infinitum that always happens in this country. Along with all the usual "jokes" about summer having been for one week only and so on.
We don't live in the Mediterranean.

Apparently it is. At some point, we seem to have had a period of long, hot summers where it didn't rain, yet simultaneously provided us with enough water for 60 million people to not to have to worry about a hose-pipe ban.
I don't know when this mythical time was, because it hasn't been in the 31 years I've been alive, but a lot of people seem awfully put out that it's stopped happening.

were the last long hot summers I think. Being as I was about 1, I can't remember whether or not there was a hosepipe ban I'm afraid, but I'm pretty sure there was no rain from about april to september in 1976.
