As soemone who is still legally a child, it's rare that I have done anything to merit discipline.
But when I have , I've received a clip round the ear or a robust corrective shouting at.
The idea of groundings and other punishments never occurred to my parents.

I think it depnds on the child.
As someone who never saw the fun in misbehavior, I think it was, and if my children are similarly pleasant, yes.
If they are little buggers I would slap them about a bit more.

So the thought of less shouting and physical discipline doesn't appeal?
I understand a clip round the ear may not seem very physical to you, but bear in mind I was raised by hippys.
