It isn't Android per se.
Barnacle WiFi does the job normally but the Tab won't see the connection, mainly due to Samsung's customisations of Android.

Rooting is the same as jail breaking in any case though. Thanks for the advice I will look into it.

Hmm, it should see it as just a standard wifi spot, if that's how it works.
Yeah', but the whole point of jailbreaking is to run unautherized code... there isn't such a thing in the ethos of android.

On pure Android, yes, to a point.
Handset manufacturers have markedly different ideas though. Besides most people just accept how their devices work. Not me, I like to tinker.

And as for my phone WiFi, I think it's something to do with the supplicant file on the Tab that only works a certain way.
