I reckon Catch-22 is a classic.But I remember reading And Quiet Flows the Don, by Mikhail Sholokhov which I enjoyed.
May need to hunt that one out again

I'd forgotten about Catch 22Took me three reads to work out roughly what was going on.
DON'T ever attempt to read the ostensible sequel - Closing Time - which is monumentally shite.
