I use a hand blender thing more often than the food processor for soups and sauces.get one of those as well. If you get a decent make even the cheap ones are up to the job.

yeah, or it comes with a big beaker thingMy old one is a mere 300w and cost about £18 I think. Perfectly good for blending stuff, even frozen fruit for smoothies and stuff.
Get a Philips one or something and you'll be fine.
