My boss is spectacularly unpleasant by email.
Once I started replying in capitals with fifteen question marks after everything he got a little better.

Example:

'XYZ is still not done. WHY?????????'

reply:

'BECAUSE I KEEP GETTING DISTRACTED BY ILL-MANNERED, SHOUTY EMAILS!!!!!!!!!'
