Best thing I've read lately is that one about living safely in a science fictional universeRaw Shark Texts has been out a few years but it's ace. Apparently The Wind-Up Girl is amazing (next on my list), that last Iain M Banks one.
Oh and if you like slightly odd scifi/fantasy things try Cordwainer Smith. I don't know why I hadn't before
