After 16 years of systematic abuse
my mother, in her infinite wisdom, decided to embark on an affair which would almost certainly have gotten her hospitalised if not worse, had my father found out.
I knew all about it, and the first time she went, rather nervously, over to his house whilst my dad was at work, I jokingly lent her a condom and told her she wouldn't need it, of course. She came home some hours later and I idly asked if she had anything to return to me. She shrugged and said I could have it back if I wanted, but I almost certainly wouldn't.

Stay classy, ma. She almost certainly wouldn't have left my dad, or left and gone back to him, though. Women are stupid.
