Bollocks, The Matrix moved fucking mountains in cinema and still echoes across entire genres of film.
Its sequels were tosh but that movie is utterly, utterly seminal.

The story itself is cliché
but the cinematography is something else. The special effects, the interpersonal exchanges, the whole concept of bringing that comic-book feel to the big screen, it was a game-changer. My friends and I have a game: when you see something in a modern film that was influenced by/directly from The Matrix, we drink a drink. You'd be amazed how much modern movies have been influenced by the memes and themes developed in that film.
