I dunno5 different people stopped to help us get from Norwich to Portsmouth. One bloke took us 3 miles down the road just because where we were trying to hitch from was completely unsuitable.
Getting lifts in France was remarkably easy though, stereotypes be damned. One of them even fed us. Shame they have no concept of vegetarianism over there.

OK fineI do generally find foreigners more willing to go out of their way to help you, even when you have only a rudimentary and childlike knowledge of their language, than I would expect them to be in this country.
